A new European initiative, FARMTRON-XR, is introducing extended reality (XR) into agricultural robotics training. As part of the consortium, DunavNET contributes its expertise in digital technologies to support the development of innovative, immersive learning experiences for technicians, vocational learners, and farm operators, particularly in vineyards and tree crop systems.
The project addresses a growing skills gap in agricultural robotics maintenance by providing a safe, hands-on XR training environment that simulates real field conditions. Trainees can practice procedures such as battery inspection, connectivity troubleshooting, sensor calibration, mechanical repair, and software diagnostics, all within a realistic 3D setting built in Unity3D and deployed through the VIROO platform.
Training modules integrate AI-assisted scenario generation (AAXLP) and include safety protocols such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE awareness, helping learners gain technical competence and safe operational habits.
Through participation in FARMTRON-XR, DunavNET continues exploring how digital technologies such as XR and AI can transform agriculture — building a skilled workforce ready for precision farming and supporting the transition toward smart, safe, and sustainable food production.
